What I do and How I Work
Having therapy or counselling is not self-indulgent, but can rather be seen as an investment in yourself and take stock of things by looking at the numerous everyday stresses and our difficulties managing them.
I offer an integrated approach to helping with problems. Dealing with stress, a particular problem, event, or specific anxiety, fear or phobia, our everyday life can be approached in a more solution focused way, using, for example, Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT and MBCT) and targeted solution focused therapies to bring about a rapid change. Common problems such as anxiety, panic attacks, depression and anger issues can also be looked at in this way; indeed, there are many situations that can be resolved by a structured exploration of the way we think and how we behave.
CBT is where we look at aspects of our behaviour and associated thoughts and is a preferred method of therapy in many situations. MBCT is Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and is a very good accompaniment to CBT and can be practiced by individuals, couples and groups and is a very good way of helping others, such as children and young people, deal with stress. Mindfulness can be practiced as a stand-alone practice and can be learnt through one of my educational workshops and programs (see below).
Current research and evidence increasingly show that happiness is linked to good relationships. Problems associated with insecure relationships have a major effect on our lives and this can cause severe anxiety and deeper depressions or anger, especially with rage. These problems can be associated with historical or current events in our lives and affect us physically, emotionally and mentally.
This includes sexual abuse and/or neglect, or acts of violence or accidents, and the many other situations that amount to trauma and ultimately Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) that prove very difficult to resolve without the right help. Trauma, loss of loved ones and bereavement, and situations like Addictions to substances or certain behaviours, and other unhelpful habits can be addressed through a deeper exploration of our current and past life, using various integrated approaches that allow you to safely explore traumatic events.
There are some situations we are born with, and others that manifest as we develop, that require a form of depth psychology that helps us process what is happening and bring about a better quality of life in the here and now.
